St Martin's C.E Primary Academy

Join the Read to the Beat Summer Reading Challenge 2026! Dear Families, We are excited to invite all children to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge 2026 – Read to the Beat! This year's challenge celebrates the joy of reading through music, rhythm, and creativity. Children can join the challenge at their local library and enjoy a summer filled with fantastic books, exciting activities, and special rewards as they progress through their reading journey. How does it work? Visit your local library to sign up for the challenge. Borrow and read books throughout the summer. Collect rewards and incentives as you complete reading milestones. Receive a certificate and medal (subject to local library arrangements) when you finish the challenge. Why take part? The Summer Reading Challenge helps children: Maintain and improve their reading skills over the summer holidays. Discover new authors, genres, and interests. Build confidence and a lifelong love of reading. Enjoy free activities and events at their local library. We encourage all children to take part and keep reading throughout the summer break. Whether they enjoy fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, audiobooks, or poetry, every book counts! Power Cut - Collection of Children from School
St Martin's C.E Primary Academy

Good afternoon Unfortunately, we have a live power cut at school with an estimated repair time of 2.30 - 3.30pm. With no electricity (and therefore no fans, cooling units), the school is now already incredibly hot! Please can we ask that, wherever possible, children are collected ASAP for the health and safety of all. Of course we we hold onto any and all pupils until they are collected and will do our very best to keep them as comfortable as possible in the meantime. Children have already had their lunch. Many thanks for your understanding and support - we do appreciate it. Kind regards Mr D Callaghan Executive Headteacher

Sports Day
St Martin's C.E Primary Academy

Sports Day Firstly, huge apologies for further changes to Sports Day this week. Following a meeting this morning, and in light of the extremely hot weather forecast for this week (including an 'Amber & Red Warning of Extreme Heat'), we have unfortunately had to make the difficult decision to postpone Sports Day. This is following updated guidance from the government's Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) which recommends that, "children should not be taking part in vigorous physical activity when it is very hot", as well as the school and Trust's own risk assessment. Sports Day will now be held on Monday 13 July 2026 at 9.00am (all Nursery children are already scheduled to be in school during this morning in order to minimise further disruption). We appreciate that parents, carers, and other family members will have booked time off work for this event as well as making other arrangements. Whilst we had hoped that we could move Sports Day to the morning, temperatures still look incredibly hot, even first thing in the morning this week. As we are sure you will appreciate, these decisions are not taken lightly and naturally, the health and safety of both children and adults has to come first; there simply isn't enough shade for all pupils, staff and spectators and starting off the day this week being hot, sweaty and exhausted just isn't advisable. We can only sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused once again. Many thanks for your understanding and continued support. Kind regards Daniel Callaghan Executive Headteacher

SPORTS AFTERNOON - THURSDAY 25 JUNE 2026
St Martin's C.E Primary Academy

Good afternoon families Due to the very warm weather that we are currently experiencing and the increase in upcoming temperatures the decision has been made to move our sports afternoon to: THURSDAY 25 June 2026 at 9am. If Thursday is NOT your child's usual nursery morning and you would like them to swap a day, please message via dojo, ring or pop into the school office. Staff and pupils on the day will be sat in the shade. If you are attending please ensure you have hat/umbrella and the shade on the school field is limited. Many thanks for your support with this decision. 🏃‍♀️🥈🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🥈🏃‍♂️

Message from the Children's Commissioner
St Martin's C.E Primary Academy

Good morning families We have been asked by Dame Rachel de Souza, Children’s Commissioner for England to share with you the following. Please can we ask where possible the survey is completed, thank you. As the Children’s Commissioner, I am asking for your support in ensuring children and young people from your school take part here: http://www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/thebigfuture. It is crucial that I hear from children in every school and college, in every community, across the country. Without hearing from your students, their experiences, views and aspirations risk being missing from the national picture that will help shape future policy. At a time of significant change for children and young people, it is more important than ever that their views are reflected in policy making. Through this survey, I can take the voices of our students directly to the centre of government. Thank you so much for your support. Dame Rachel de Souza Children’s Commissioner for England
